China was the world’s top trademark filer in 2016, with the country accounting for 3.7 million applications out of an estimated global total of 7 million.

According to a report from the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO), ‘World Intellectual Property Indicators’, China was responsible for 75 percent of the year on year increase in trademark applications in 2016.

The amount of trademark applications increased by 16.4 percent in 2016.
