Man guilty of trafficking $2.5 million in counterfeits


A New York man has pleaded guilty for planning the distribution of more than $2.5 million of counterfeit UGG boots.

Shi Wei Zheng, who was charged by compliant on 7 March this year, received three shipping containers at the Port of Newark in New York, which contained more than $2.5 million worth of counterfeit UGG boots.

Zheng then attempted to deliver the shoes to his workers who were to distribute them in New Jersey and elsewhere.

US Immigrations and Customs Enforcement, alongside US Customs and Border Protection intercepted the containers before they could be distributed and Zheng was arrested.

Zheng will be sentenced in January 2018 and stands to face a maximum potential penalty of 10 years in prison and a $2 million fine.
