BPTO forms new trademark acceleration group

The Brazilian Patent and Trademark Office (BPTO) has created a new working group aimed at accelerating trademark application decisions.

The 17-strong group will carry out technical instructions for roughly 50,000 appeals that are pending against trademark application rejections.

It will reduce the amount of accumulated cases at the second instance related to trademark applications, according to the BPTO.

Earlier this month, the BPTO agreed to a Patent Prosecution Highway with the Japanese Patent Office to lower patent examination time and increase its efficiency.

The working group finished training on 17 March and will work on the project until 31 December 2017.
