IACC president testifies in Italy
International Anti-Counterfeiting Coalition (IACC) president Bob Barchiesi has called for further collaboration in the fight against counterfeiting before Italy’s parliamentary committee inquiry on counterfeiting.

Barchiesi attended a special hearing on intellectual property rights enforcement and shared how the IACC is combatting counterfeiting and piracy with enhanced collaboration efforts.

The committee organised the hearing to better understand the scope of efforts to address online counterfeiting.

Barchiesi told members of parliament in Italy that collaboration is the key to combatting counterfeiting.

“We will surely need support in the future in convening relevant partners and encouraging buy-in among key participants,” he said.

“I would welcome your assistance in that regard, and your input in ensuring that Italian businesses and consumers reap the full benefit of our efforts.”

He also commented on the RogueBlock programme, which the IACC developed to block counterfeiters' cashflow. The programme works with credit card companies and payment processors to terminate counterfeit merchant accounts.

At the hearing, Barchiesi said: “RogueBlock is the first and only programme of its kind developed to enforce intellectual property rights by ‘following the money’.”

The programme has terminated more than 5,300 merchant accounts since its launch in 2012.
