TiVo renews IP licences with Panasonic

TiVo Corporation and its subsidiary, Rovi, have renewed a multi-year licensing agreement with Panasonic Corporation.

The deal is an extension of the company’s products for the Japanese market and includes, G-Guide, G-Guide HTML and G-Guide xD.

Panasonic also signed a multi-year worldwide licence to the entertainment discovery patent portfolio of Rovi, which contains more than 5,000 issued or pending patents worldwide as of 2015.

It covers a range of digital entertainment capabilities such as interactive programme guides, search and recommendations, and “multi-screen experiences”.

The agreement will allow Panasonic to provide “advanced entertainment discovery experiences” across its TV, DVR and set-top box products.

Michael Hawkey, senior vice president and general manager of user experience at TiVo, said: “Our continued collaboration with Panasonic further reinforces the need for technologies and solutions to power next-gen entertainment services while enhancing the overall user experience.”

“Our innovative products help companies like Panasonic deliver seamless navigation experiences that help users find the content they want to watch no matter where they are or what device they are watching from.”
