Diego Maradona complains about Pro Evo image use

Former Argentina midfielder Diego Maradona has said he may initiate legal action against Konami for his depiction in its Pro Evolution Soccer videogame.

Maradona appears in the game’s “legends” section, alongside Henrik Larsson, Thierry Henry and Gary Lineker.

In a post to his Facebook page, Maradona said he would refer Konami to his legal team over the unauthorised use of his image. He added that he hoped it wasn’t another “scam”.

Sports videogames have a colourful history when it comes to unauthorised use of athletes’ images.

Last year, Solid Oak Sketches filed a copyright infringement complaint against Take-Two Interactive’s NBA games for unauthorised use of Kobe Bryant’s tattoo designs.

Bryant’s tattoos’ feature prominently on covers and adverts for the game.
