Mewburn Ellis opens Munich office

Intellectual property boutique Mewburn Ellis has opened a new office in Munich, its first expansion outside of the UK.

The Munich office will be led by partner, Tanis Keirstead. She will be supported by Christopher Moeller, who joined the firm as partner in August.

Mewburn Ellis has offices in London, Bristol, Cambridge, Manchester and now Munich.

The new office is located near the European Patent Office and “represents an expansion of the firm’s intellectual property services, following a period of significant growth in the UK,” according to Mewburn Ellis.

The office will offer a range of IP services in patents, trademarks and designs, covering drafting, prosecution, oppositions, litigation, IP strategy consulting and portfolio management.

Mewburn Ellis already undertakes European IP work for both domestic and international clients, but says that due to an increasing volume of European work, establishing a presence in mainland Europe is important for its development.

The firm said that, while European patent work will not be affected by the UK’s exit from the EU, Brexit’s affect on trademark services is less certain. Opening a new office will secure its position in providing EU-wide trademark services.

Keirstead commented: “Mewburn Ellis has a long-standing reputation for providing unrivalled international patent services across the EU, across multiple sectors.”

“Our new Munich office allows us not only to grow our patent practice still further, but also further develop our rapidly expanding trade mark business too.”

She added: “Now is the time for bold growth and expansion. Our new presence in Munich is the next step on that path. This could not be a more exciting time for the firm.”
